Overview

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to orthopedic patients including civilian trauma patients. Assess, treat and direct as to follow-up care.
  • Consult with staff surgeon or Chief resident on patient care cases outside of the RN’s scope of practice
  • Schedule operative cases, as directed by the provider, submit buck slips, order consults and diagnostic tests in medical data system
  • Act as liaison for inpatient nursing staff, discharge planners. Serve as point of contact for pre and post-operative patients, administer and monitor medications regimens (i.e. anticoagulant and erythropoietin-alpha therapy)
  • Serve as point of contact for patient questions, consults, telephone triage and walk-in patients. Call back patient within 48 hours for progress report a directed by staff.
  • Serve as patient and family educator in pre and post-operative instructions and ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements via preoperative paperwork have been met.
  • Provide long term outpatient contact for patients with ongoing surgical conditions.
  • Participate in development of clinical outcomes to develop patient standard of care.
  • Ensure complete and quality resolution of discrepancies.

Qualifications

  • Valid Licensed Registered Nurse
  • BLS
  • 1 year experience in similar setting in the past 3 years
