    Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), JBSA Fort Sam Houston, Texas

    Responsibilities

     The quality of NP practice shall meet or exceed reasonable standards of professional practice for the health care concerned as determined by the same authority that governs military medical professionals in the same discipline

    The individual will independently perform duties in accordance with professional standards and guidelines

    Perform and complete pre-anesthesia evaluations for patients in all age groups, newborns through geriatrics, having outpatient and inpatient surgery.

    Assigns the American Society of Anesthesiologist’s (ASA’s) physical status classification for the patient.

    Qualifications

    Must Have:

    • Advanced Practice Nursing educational program and possess evidence of certification according to the requirements of the Board Certified /Advanced Practice certifying organization.
    • Possess at least two (2) years recent full-time experience in a preoperative or other health-care setting conducting in-depth patient history taking, assessment, and physical examination for all age groups, newborn through
    • Possess and maintain current a certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).  BCLS certification must be obtained through an American Heart Association and/or Red Cross approved training program. 
    • Have and maintain a valid, unencumbered license as a registered nurse in at least one state within the United States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.  If the state of registration has a separate Advanced Practice (APN) licensure, the nurse practitioner shall also have APN licensure.  Current unrestricted license to practice in a state or a territory of the United States, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or the District of Columbia.
