    Responsibilities

    Perform therapeutic and component apheresis procedures compatible with the operating capacity of the MTF and equipment listed. Procedures include, but are not limited to:
    a. Platelet collections
    b. Plasma collections
    c. Therapeutic phlebotomies

     

    Coordinate recruitment of hemapheresis blood donors and evaluate the medical history and physical examinations to determine donor suitability. Responsible for the immediate care of donors and patients by recognizing adverse reactions to the procedure and instituting immediate corrective measures.

     

    Oversee the total hemapheresis operations for blood services section, under the direction of the Medical Director, and Director, Blood Services. Assist in development of policies and procedures for the apheresis unit in strict compliance with all accrediting and licensing agencies. Resolve complicated technical problems.

     

    Qualifications

    • Registered Nurse-Apheresis: will perform their duties IAW local Operating Instructions (OIs), regulations of the Food and Drug Administration – Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, standards of practice of AABB, and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), American Society for Apheresis (ASFA)
    • Graduate from a college or university accredited by National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
    • Associates Degree of Nursing.
    • Shall have a Qualification in Apheresis (QIA) from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Society for Apheresis (ASFA).
    • Shall have provided and overseen hemapheresis services (therapeutic and component collection) a minimum of four (4) years within the past six (6) years.
    • Demonstrate clinical competency within the past two years in the required clinica
    • Have and maintain current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) by the American Heart Association.
